A Pacific Heights Walk in San Francisco

Start at Broadway and Webster Streets, where four notable estates stand within a block of one another. Two are on the north side of Broadway west of the intersection, one is on the same side to the east, and the last is half a block south on Webster. Head south down Webster and hang a right onto Clay to Alta Plaza Park, or skip the park and turn left on Jackson to the Whittier Mansion, at Jackson and Laguna Streets. Head south down Laguna and cross Washington Street to Lafayette Park. Walk on Washington along the edge of the park, past the formal French Spreckels Mansion at the corner of Octavia Street, and continue east two more blocks to Franklin Street. Turn left (north); halfway down the block stands the handsome Haas-Lilienthal House. Head back south on Franklin Street, stopping to view a handsome Georgian-style residence (1735 Franklin St.) and the Queen Anne–style Coleman House with a gorgeous purple stained-glass window on the home's north side (1701 Franklin St.). At California Street, turn right (west) to see two Italianate Victorians and the Atherton House. Continue west to Laguna Street and turn left (south); past Pine Street sits a sedate block of Laguna Street Victorians.
