Park Hotel Amsterdam

Classic meets contemporary at this cosmopolitan property near the museums.
Fodor's Expert Review
Though this stately 18th-century Amsterdam fixture has one foot in the distant past and the other in the relatively recent one, phased renovations are currently underway to update the decor to the here-and-now. That said, the hotel is still in good nick overall (the newly updated split-level loft suites are particularly attractive) with a pleasant cosmopolitan ambiance and prime location near the Big Three museums and Amsterdam’s poshest shopping street. Service is a selling point, with plenty of friendly faces and classic concierge service. Take the time to admire the original marble staircases with leaded glass windows on every floor.

Room
Standard doubles feature queen size beds with soft Jensen Original zone system mattresses, good reading lamps, simple desks and chairs and amenities like Samsung flat-screen TVs, free WiFi, climate control, coffee/tea facilities, and a minibar. Rooms have large windows with views of the park, city streets or the Singel canal.
Tip Kids are welcome in the triple rooms, interconnecting rooms and Junior Suites: the hotel offers a babysitting service, children's menus and free baby cots on request.
Bathroom
Sleek, black and compact, with powerful rain showers, good shaving/make-up mirrors and proper hairdryers. We really like the bathroom products by local label Dead Clean, which is enriched with Dead Sea minerals and natural plant oils.
You Should Know Over three-quarters of the guest rooms have open-plan bathrooms. So if you're shy and sharing, please keep this in mind!
Lobby
The large and colorful lobby offers plenty of seating options, including fireside seats, a cozy nook and a lounge area with oversized sofas overlooking a busy street and (slightly hidden) canal. There’s also a gallery, library and a refreshments stand with house-made macarons and free flavored water.
Gym
If leafy Vondelpark isn’t beckoning you to take an early morning jog, there's also a very well equipped 24-hour fitness center, with Star Trac cardio- and strength-training equipment, as well as free weights, towels, fruit and water, and a personal trainer available on weekdays.
Dining
The attractive in-house restaurant MOMO (Japanese for “beauty”) was a local favorite among the see-and-be-seen crowd when it first opened in 2008 and still pumps out pricey Pan-Asian fare and well-crafted cocktails. In the mornings, a generous breakfast buffet (not included) is served in the light, bright restaurant.
Drinking
There is a fully stocked, if overpriced, bar off the lobby. Cocktails can also be enjoyed at MOMO.
What's Nearby
Getting Around
Sitting on the border of the busy Center and chic South, the neon lights of Leidseplein are around the corner, the sylvan glades of Amsterdam's gorgeous Vondelpark are across the road, and the major art museums are around the corner. There are also plenty of nearby trams that’ll take you further into the center or beyond.
Restaurants
If all you crave after all that airplane food is something simple and clean, get your chicken ramen kick at Umaimon (7-minute walk). But if you’re up for a lighter take on Gallic cuisine in an atmospheric Golden Age landmark, The French Connection (14-minute walk) is worth a go. De Foodhallen (8-minute cycle), Amsterdam’s lively indoor food court, provides plenty of choice for even the pickiest of eaters with over 20 food stands.
