Why We Like It
Offering a level of over-the-top luxury and seamless service unlike any other hotel in egalitarian Amsterdam, Hotel TwentySeven feels like a decadent slice of Dubai on the Dam.

Hotelier Eric Toren’s vision of the “true dream hotel” that will “redefine luxury in Amsterdam” includes 16 opulently adorned suites with personal butler service, and a world-class restaurant and bar. Perched over Dam Square at the very centre of the city in the striking Industria building, which was constructed in 1913 as a “Grand Industrial Club” for the tycoons of the Industrial Revolution (the chichi society still exists on the bottom two floors, by the way), the hotel is a perfect fit in this location, as it will no doubt attract the movers and shakers (and celebs) of today.

Room
The hotel’s lavishly decorated suites range in size from 484 sq. ft. to 2357 sq. ft. (excluding a 290 sq. ft. terrace). Dripping in golds, coppers, velvets, and silks, with not a matte surface in sight, the only thing understated about the décor is a relatively neutral color palette (bronze, gray, taupe) although even that is offset by colorful art. Taste is, of course, subjective and Hotel TwentySeven’s more-is-more style won’t appeal to everyone, but what is certain is that it’s exceptionally comfortable, and it’s clear that much thought was given to details such as lighting, soundproofing, and finish.
One press of a button transforms the lighting into five different atmospheres from a moonlit indigo to a sunny glow. Every inch is covered with the finest furnishings and fabrics and every surface is tactile (even the wallpapers and the hand-knotted carpets are made from silk), making the suites ideally suited to romance. In each 100% soundproofed suite, you’ll find a bar with Eurocave wine cabinets, curvy handmade sofas covered in Lizzo velvets, state-of-the-art sound installations and oversized Samsung flat-screen Smart TVs, and fancy coffee makers. Bedrooms have large, lovely beds with headboards covered in plush Pierre Frey fabrics and Eichholtz crystal-and-glass bedside lamps.
Bathroom
Roman-style marble bathrooms boast beautiful mosaic floors, jumbo jacuzzis fit for two and double-sized showers that convert to steam baths at the touch of a button. Tricked-out toilets come with all kinds of features including bidet functions and heated, motion-activated seats that always seem to be rising to the occasion.
You Should Know This “aiming-for-six-stars” property does sadly not have a pool, a gym or a spa.
Lobby
Step away from the hustle and bustle of Dam Square through the heavy monumental doors of the Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club into a hushed world. You’ll be greeted at the welcome desk, after which you’ll be whisked up to the reception area, where you can admire a striking four-storey high handmade glass light sculpture.

No, but special requests can be accommodated in-suite, from a personal trainer or yoga instructor to customized fitness equipment.
Dining
Rich Rubelli fabrics, copper-threaded wall dressings, and woodwork with gold and bronze patinas set an extravagant scene at the third-floor restaurant Bougainville, where some tables offer spectacular views of Dam Square and the Royal Palace. The kitchen is led by former Michelin-starred chef Pascal Jalhay “who is creating, in his own right, the restaurant of his dreams, with the finest gastronomic experience for guests”. Luxury here is surprisingly light on its feet, with a focus on meticulous methods of preparation and exclusive products rather than sauces rich in truffle and foie. Service is immaculate.
Drinking
Put yourself in the capable hands of the award-winning Wine Director, Lendl Meinheimer at Bougainville or stop by Bar TwentySeven for probiotic cocktails that are said to balance out the stomach and possibly help prevent hangovers (yes, really!).
Tip The backlit bar is made from Iranian onyx that is 250 million years old. How’s that for a random fact?

Getting Around
Located in the heart of Amsterdam on Dam Square, near popular shopping streets, museums, and various popular attractions, this hotel is a good base from which to explore the Old Center and Canal Belt. There are also various tram stops nearby, and Centraal Station is a short walk away.

If you’re in the mood for modern European bistro food in a sleek setting adjacent to Amsterdam’s oldest church, opt for Restaurant Anna (3-minute walk). Michelin-starred Vinkeles (11-minute walk) offers fabulous French fine dining in what was once a 17th-century bakery. Or, if you’re so inclined, try the green herb-encrusted suckling pig cutlet with pearl barley and prune sauce at Dutch food specialist Greetje (15-minute walk).
