Fodor's Expert Review Szentendre Skanzen Village Museum

Szentendre Museum Village
Szentendre's farthest-flung museum is also the largest open-air museum in the country. It is a living recreation of 18th- and 19th-century village life from different regions of Hungary—the sort of place where blacksmith shops and a horse-powered mill compete with wooden houses and folk handicrafts for your attention. Five km (3 miles) northwest of the city center, the museum is accessible by bus from the Szentendre terminus of the HÉV suburban railway; the bus leaves from stand No. 7 (ask to be sure, and buy a ticket to the Skanzen, as the museum is called).
