Thais take household goods and consumer products across the river, where Myanmar residents trade them for sandalwood, jade, and rubies. Though you may want to see Myanmar, the prices and quality of the goods will not be better than in Mae Sai.
Rubies aren't the only red gems here. Mae Sai is also justifiably proud of its sweet strawberries, which ripen in December or January, found at local markets and as far away as Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.
