Why We Like It
Hotel Magnolia is innovative and classic at the same time. It's attractively styled and elegant, and fills a niche for architecture and renovation lovers in downtown Santiago. It has great service, a superb location and a fun, chill rooftop deck, which makes you really feel like you're part of the neighborhood. This is, in fact, why it closes so early, to keep peace with the neighbors. The fact that they also have excellent food at the hotel is an extra plus.

Formerly a private mansion, this meticulously renovated and newly styled 1929 home has set the bar for new hotels in downtown Santiago. Magnolia has been open just two years, but is making serious waves. It is considered a fine example of fusing old with new, from the old-school facade that is later glassed in, to interior remodels with marble staircases mixed with steel and wire walkways. They offer a good restaurant onsite, impeccable service and an enviable rooftop in addition to a handsome downtown bar.

Room
Two main styles of room are available for superior rooms, one of which is modern and has blond wood details, and the other of which has the original stained glass and crown moldings from before the remodel. Both are modern and tastefully appointed, and have in-room coffee service, and a relaxing atmosphere. The suites are larger, with coffee tables, more seating areas and geometric accent rugs.

Lobby
The lobby of the Hotel Magnolia is broken up into several spaces, including a bar, and what feels like cozy library or conservatory rooms, with modern furniture in harlequin-tiled spaces. Any of these living rooms is a good place to meet a friend or relax after a long day or sit for a spell before going out for the night.
Dining
The restaurant is open for late lunch and dinner, and serves a changing menu with fresh, local ingredients with modern takes on Chilean cuisine. Seafood features heavily, but meat is also in rotation. The space is luminous and comfortable with abstract-shaped metallic hanging lamps above. Upstairs on the terrace, dinner is served until late, specializing in grilled meats and seafood.
Drinking
Both the lobby bar and the terrace bar make good signature cocktails and have a good wine list. The lobby bar is more sedate, and the terrace bar, with a view of Cerro Santa Lucía can be more popular on warm nights, though it closes at midnight.
You Should Know The rooftop bar is only open Tues-Sat and closes at midnight.

Getting Around
Hotel Magnolia is close to the Bellas Artes metro (6-minute walk) which is perfect for daytime adventures. At night though, especially to return to the hotel, most guests will choose a taxi, Cabify or Uber.
Restaurants
The closest collection of restaurants close to Magnolia is in Lastarria, (7-minute walk) where there are three standouts, which are Liguria (6-minute walk) for traditional Chilean food, Chipe Libre, (7-minute walk) for Pisco pairings with local food of a slightly more delicate preparation and BocaNáriz, (7-minute walk) the country's first wine bar, which also does food pairings, and has nice meals. Also close by are the Castillo Forestal, (8-minute walk) with French food made from Chilean ingredients, and the kooky Sarita Colonia, (11-minute walk) serving fusion Peruvian food in a very fun environment. Or choose ancestral food at Peumayén (9-minute drive) in Barrio Bellavista.
Bars
Check out Bellavista for some fun bars, either choosing one at random in the Patio Bellavista (6-minute drive), or going a touch outside to Siete Negronis (9-minute drive) for some innovative drinks with local ingredients. Newly opened Salon Chharqu (9-minute drive) (attached to Restaurant Peumayén) is making its mark for a combination of the innovative and ancestral cocktail, and Bar La Virgen (5-minute drive) has a popular rooftop deck and small bites. Or head uptown to the see-and-be-seen bar at Piso Uno (12-minute drive) (a Nikkei restaurant serving Peruvian Japanese fusion food). Or head into Barrio Italia to Carrer Nou (12-minute drive) to Providencia to try Chile's version of some fine Spanish tapas.
