3 Best Sights in Praia do Rosa, The South

Praia do Rosa

Fodor's choice
Known nationally for its awesome beauty and laid-back atmosphere, Praia do Rosa boasts sand dunes, lagoons, and green, forest-covered hills that end right in the ocean. The 3-km (2-mile) beach is popular with surfers, while its sheltered lagoons are excellent swimming spots for children. Amenities: food and drink. Best for: surfing; swimming; walking.

Laguna

The city of Laguna is the second-oldest Portuguese settlement in the state of Santa Catarina. Most downtown buildings reflect the early colonial days. Known for its many beaches, Laguna has one of the liveliest Carnival festivities of southern Brazil. Part of the city faces Laguna Imaruí (Imaruí Lagoon), which connects to the Atlantic 5 km (3 miles) farther east. You can drive or hire a boat on the beaches to get to the Imaruí Lake delta, where exploring the imposing Santa Marta Lighthouse and nearby beaches is well worth a day's outing.

Praia da Ferrugem

Busy in summer months thanks to its abundance of guesthouses and proximity to Garopaba, Praia da Ferrugem is a popular choice with surfers. A small rocky outcrop marks the division with neighboring Praia da Barra, and it's an easy amble from one to the other across a channel where, depending on the tide, the ocean connects with the Lagoa da Encantada lake. Amenities: food and drink. Best for: surfing.
