Why We Like It
This sleek hotel is airy and bright and beautiful, but it’s more than that. A friendly, “welcome home” vibe embraces you the second you walk into the lobby and stays with you throughout your stay. We also like the hotel's eco-friendly emphasis, including LED lighting, Earthview bottled water (which donates $1 for every bottle sold to water-deprived regions of the world), and thermostats that know when you're in or out of the room. A lot of thought has been put into every aspect of this hotel, and it shows. For that reason, we feel very much at home here.

The St. Gregory, in D.C.'s West End, greets you with a sleek urban vibe in every nook and cranny of its newly renovated space. From the library-esque lobby to beige-umbrella-shaded patio to spacious, swanky rooms (some with private furnished terraces), its dark-gray-and-white color scheme mixed in with lots of light and space is as inviting and homey as can be. A chic Mediterranean restaurant, glittery bar, and one of the best hotel gyms ever round out a great urban experience.

Room
The sophisticated dark-gray-and-white hues continue into the super spacious guest rooms, where design elements include hardwood floors, accent carpeting, and modern furniture (including huge working desks). There are comforts galore, including Keurig coffee makers, refrigerator, and iHome alarm clock, and charging station. Of 155 rooms, 120 are junior or one-bedroom suites. Some have furnished terraces and fully stocked kitchenettes.
Tip The views from the west side rooms are more open than others--something to think about, especially if your room has a terrace.
Bathroom
Bathrooms are spacious and modern. All suite bathrooms are done up with black and white stripes across the floors and blue walls in a way that only a top-notch designer could make work—and it works. Suites have standup showers, while standard rooms have the traditional tub-and-shower combo. All rooms enjoy L’Occitane’s Verbana toiletries.
Lobby
Sleek, airy, and bright, the lobby is simply swank with its dark-gray-and-white palette and hint of mid-century modern. And yet it’s cozy, with the scattering of bookshelves (with books!), a roaring fire, and B&W artwork. Modern takes on traditional furniture have been strategically clustered for private convos--this is a place to relax and unwind.
Pool
There’s no pool, but guests are invited to use the rooftop pool at the Hilton Garden Inn just a block away.
Gym
A workout addict’s dream, the gym not only includes treadmills, ellipticals, a punching bag, and free weights, but PELOTON BIKES! The space, like the rest of the hotel, is airy and bright.
Dining
The three-tiered Tredici Enoteca restaurant is a destination unto itself, with Chef Carlos Aparicio serving up small plates from the coasts of Italy, Greece, and the Middle East. The flatbread is made fresh on-site in a special oven, and the raw with daily oysters is spectacular.
Drinking
You enter the bar from the lobby through a bookcase-like wall, into a sophisticated and intimate space complete with a curving marble bar, half-circle banquettes, and plenty of light. In finer weather, you can take it outside to the elegant patio, where cocktails and small plates are served beneath fabulous beige umbrellas.

Getting Around
The St. Gregory is located in the bustling West End district of D.C., between Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom (with Georgetown a short walk to the west). It's a bit of a walk to the city's major sights, and if you don't care to walk, a taxi, Uber, or metro ride is preferable over a car due to traffic and limited parking options. The Foggy Bottom metro stop is a 9-minute walk away, and the Dupont Circle metro stop is a 7-minute walk in the opposite direction.
Restaurants
Blue Duck Tavern (0.27-mile walk down M Street), in the nearby Ritz, has recently been bestowed a Michelin star for its one-of-a-kind combinations of traditional and state-of-the-art dishes. RIS (0.24-mile walk) by award-winning chef Ris Lacoste showcases American cuisine with flourish.
Bars
1831 Bar & Lounge (4-minute walk) has signature cocktails, top 100 music, and an acclaimed happy hour in a hip setting. Boqueria (3-minute walk) is a popular tapas restaurant, but it also has a buzzy bar with some of the best sangria around.
