Just a few miles farther from the national park than Bryce Canyon City but considerably cuter and more charming, tiny Tropic (population 480) is a convenient base for exploring the region's majestic rock formations—many of which you can see from town. You'll find a handful eateries and lodgings here, some of them excellent. Keep in mind that many businesses shut down or greatly slow down in winter.
