Fodor's Expert Review Marmara Park Avenue
114 E. 32nd St., New York, New York 10016, USA See on Map
A popular pick for extended-stay travelers, this sleek property impresses with large rooms complete with conveniences of home like wet bars or fully equipped kitchens. The subterranean pool with hammam is an unexpected but welcome feature. The work of local artisans brings a special New York touch to the décor.
YOU SHOULD KNOW While there are good dining and drinking options nearby, this isn’t the most exciting neighborhood.
room
Residential in style, rooms have wide-plank wood floors, big windows, and crisp white bedding. Some rooms have wet bars or full kitchens and all are surprisingly spacious for a New York City hotel.
Some rooms have outdoor terraces that are ideal during warm-weather months.
bathroom
Sleek, marble bathrooms have backlit mirrors and shower/tub combos (some rooms have separate soaking tubs).
lobby
The bright lobby with high ceilings has a fireplace and fresh flowers. With a mostly white color palette, it’s a peaceful place to lounge.
pool
A subterranean indoor pool is large enough for swimming laps and has a handful of lounge chairs. The spa also has a Turkish hammam.
LOCATION
Getting Around
Located on East 32nd Street between Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenue, this hotel is within easy walking distance of a range of Indian restaurants in Curry Hill and the landmarks of midtown east. Subway access is a bit limited with the 6 train at 33rd Street. Taxis and Uber are widely available in this neighborhood.
Restaurants
California cooking is at the heart of the menu at Upland (7-minute walk), a stylish brasserie with excellent pasta and roasted fish. Roman-style thin-crust pizza is the focus at Marta (5-minute walk), a buzzing restaurant with an open kitchen. This hotel is on the doorstep of Curry Hill, with block after block of Indian cuisine; try a taste of the neighborhood at Sahib (7-minute walk).
WHY WE LIKE IT
The subterranean pool and hammam are a genuinely peaceful counterpoint to the fast pace of Manhattan. We love the loft-inspired rooms, especially those with scenic balconies and the convenience of a kitchen.
