Why We Like It

For the price, it's hard to find a better option for extended stays in the historic heart of Santa Fe. All of the units in this hilltop compound have full kitchens and anywhere from one to three bedrooms. If you're willing to spend a little more, you can also upgrade to a more luxurious unit. The indoor pool is a rarity in Downtown Santa Fe.

Fodor's Expert Review

Santa Fe's largest and most popular vacation-rental compound, this hilltop spread on the northern edge of Downtown has one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, all of them outfitted with full kitchens and good-size living areas, making them a good choice for longer stays. Fort Marcy Suites has many of the facilities you'd expect of a hotel, including an indoor pool and a lobby with a small business center—during the day there's even a free shuttle service to whisk you around the area. If you're willing to overlook the somewhat dated furnishings in many units, it's a reliable option with reasonable rates, and it's also one of the closest accommodations to Ski Santa Fe.

You Should Know Fort Marcy Suites is within a relatively short (half-mile) walk to the Plaza, but it is on a slight hill, something to consider if you have any mobility issues.

Room

Accommodations at this compound are spacious and well-equipped, each unit with a fully outfitted kitchen, private patio or balcony, and a living room. In standard units, you may encounter some older, dated furniture and accessories, but these are priced more reasonably, too. The deluxe units have updated fixtures and furnishings along with wood-burning kiva fireplaces, better kitchen equipment, and cushier bedding.

Tip Fort Marcy Hotel Suites is set atop a hill, and some units do have expansive views of the mountains or Downtown. It's worth calling and asking when you book if it's possible to reserve a unit with a view.

Bathroom

Depending on whether you book one of the standard units or a more recently refurbished deluxe one, bathrooms range a bit in quality, but they're all at a minimum perfectly adequate and are brightened up a bit with colorful Southwestern tiles, painted sinks, and either standing showers or shower-tub combinations.

Lobby

The lobby is used mostly for checking in at this large condo complex, but there is a small sitting area.

Pool

There's a large indoor pool near the lobby, a relatively rare perk among downtown Santa Fe hotels.

Dining

There's no restaurant on-site, but all units have kitchens, and there are plenty of grocery stores and markets nearby.

Drinking

The kitchens in each unit are handy for storing wine and beer and preparing drinks. There's no bar, however, on the property.

Getting Around

Fort Marcy Suites Hotel has a handy location on the northern edge of downtown, within walking distance of the Plaza and many attractions. The hotel also offers free shuttle service in the local area during the day, and you could get by here without a car using Uber or cabs for reaching some farther-afield sites. That said, a car comes in handy for exploring the area, and there's ample free parking on-site.

Restaurants

Cafe Pasqual's (12-minute walk) is renowned for some of the most delicious modern Southwestern fare in the state and is open for both breakfast and dinner. Tuck into small plates of creative Japanese izakayi fare at Izanami (7-minute drive), a stylish restaurant at Ten Thousand Waves spa resort, which is a pretty drive up the hill.

Bars

Tonic (12-minute walk) offers live jazz in a hip and intimate art deco space and offers an extensive selection of craft drinks. You can sample outstanding locally made sparkling and still wines in the attractive Gruet Winery Tasting Room (12-minute walk), which is just off the lobby of the historic St. Francis Hotel.
