Horseback Riding

Orlando Area

Silver Spurs Rodeo. Many natives recall the era known as Old Florida, and that's the time before 1971 and the arrival of the theme parks. You can still find Old Florida on Disney's doorstep, right there in neighboring Kissimmee at the Silver Spurs Rodeo, which is pure Florida goodness. Launched here by ranching families in 1944, the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi is where you'll see bull riders and cowboys competing in a variety of high-energy, high-adrenaline competitions including bull and bronco riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. If you’d like to hang out with some of the original ranchers whose families pre-date Disney by a century, this is the place to do it. The main rodeo show is held each February with the National Barrel Horse Association competition held in June. From Interstate 4 Exit 77, take Florida's Turnpike south to Exit 244 (Kissimmee–St. Cloud). 1875 Silver Spur La., Kissimmee, Florida, 34744. 321/697–3495; www.silverspursrodeo.com. From $15. Hrs vary.
