Fodor's Expert Review The Ruse

891 Grove St., Healdsburg, California, 95448, USA

An 1883 Italianate Victorian anchors this luxury inn on 3 lush acres in a residential area a mile from Healdsburg Plaza, which received a top-to-bottom makeover completed in early 2023. The main house and an adjacent structure contain three guest rooms each, two duplexes hold four more, and there's a standalone ADA suite near the well-stocked koi pond. The furnishings tilt modern, with hardwood floors, contemporary carpets, king or queen beds depending on room size, and outdoor sitting areas, all but one private. Some rooms have fireplaces and tubs. Toward the property's rear, guests work on their putting at an 18-hole green and have access to boccie and pickleball courts. Closer to the mansion, an oak strung with lanterns looms over the pool and hot tub. A former restaurant chef prepares healthful full breakfasts in a stone-and-glass pavilion whose floor-to-ceiling windows can be opened to create a connecting open-air space.
