The nearest community with a good mix of mostly casual dining options is Chester, about a half-hour drive from the southwest entrance station. About an hour away, the small cities of Red Bluff and Redding have more extensive restaurant selections.
This popular craft brewery stands out because of its airy, modern interior and for turning out some of the best pizzas in the area. But you can also enjoy a great selection of perennial and seasonal ales, from the Lassen-inspired Volcanic Double IPA to rich Devil's Corral Imperial Stout. Expect a fun, lively crowd.

This convivial restaurant and bar in the center of Chester has developed a strong following for its tasty pub fare. You can dine on fish tacos or a meatball sub, or opt for more substantial entrées such as filet mignon or grilled wild salmon. The craft cocktails served in the tavern's elegantly old-fashioned Brubeck Bar—the grandfather of the late musician Dave Brubeck owned a hotel in the area years ago—are named for classic jazz tunes.
Coffee and hot cocoa, wine and beer (including local brews from Lassen Ale Works), and sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, bagels, and pizzas are served in this casual eatery inside the park's only year-round visitor center. Indoors, there's a fireplace, but if the weather is fine, the patio with its mountain views is the place to be.
