Sled-Dog Racing

Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Travelers come from around the world to watch dog teams pass under the burled arch as they finish the 1,049 miles from Anchorage to Nome in the Iditarod, or what's billed as "The Last Great Race." Alaska's most well-known sled dog race pulls in spectators (and mushers) from around the world to brave the Alaska winter to witness or to participate as racers and volunteers in this massive feat of endurance. Many visitors watch the dog teams take off from the ceremonial start in Anchorage, and then travel to the finish line in Nome to celebrate as teams cross the finish line. For sled dog race dates, starting times, and viewing locations, and anything else relating to "The Last Great Race," contact the Iditarod Trail Committee.
