Fodor's Expert Review duMexique
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Discreetly located on bustling Avenida Bonampak, this hidden gem created by chef Alain Grimond and his wife, Sonya, has an intimate dinner-party feel. Accommodating only 20 guests per evening, duMexique is a dream come true for foodies, with a French menu (featuring five appetizers, five entrées, and four desserts) that changes daily; selections might include foie gras, duckling with risotto, or entrecôte with wine sauce. By calling ahead, you can request soufflé de huitlacoche, a delicacy made from mushrooms that grow on cornstalks. Doubling as a gallery, the dining room features modern art, a grand piano, red velvet chairs, and a crystal chandelier that casts spectrums of light onto the ceiling. The crème brûlée is magnifique. Visit the kitchen, where the master chef's awards are displayed.
