4 Best Sights in Seyðisfjörður, East Iceland and the Eastfjords

Rainbow Road

Found on many a postcard of Seyðisfjörður (along with many an Instagram feed), the town's pride-inspired Rainbow Road, as it has been lovingly dubbed, is much smaller in reality but nonetheless charming.

Seyðisfjarðarkirkja

Follow the rainbow-brick road to this striking pale-blue church, an old landmark attraction built in the town center in 1920. The church is open during the summer months for regular concerts and events. An unusual white sculpture next to the church was made from the girders of a factory that was flattened in an avalanche in 1996.

Skaftfell Art Center

There’s a continual blossoming of creativity at Skaftfell, a center dedicated to visual and contemporary art. Located on the first floor above the Skaftfell bistro, the center features a large gallery exhibiting the works of both local and international artists. It also hosts art courses and workshops, and has a communal space for artists and a lovely artist residence on the top floor.

Tvísöngur

A short uphill trail (a 15-minute walk) off Hafnargata on the east side of town leads up the mountainside and this musical sculpture called Tvísöngur. Designed by German artist Lukas Kühne, the series of interconnected concrete domes resonates with specific tones from the traditional, five-tone Icelandic harmony. The views are glorious.
