The Berlin Ritz Carlton

Potsdamer Platz 3 , Berlin, 10785, Germany

Why We Like It

World class service, rare luxuries and great drinks make this hotel a destination with charms that make it a destination in itself.

Fodor's Expert Review

Nobody puts on the ritz better than The Ritz, and this Berlin hotel is no exception. Not only will you find world-class luxury and impeccable service, but several unique amenities that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Prepare to be pampered, impressed, and often conflicted about whether to go out or stay in.

Room

Fairly standard as far as luxury rooms go, but with state-of-the-art-amenities like touch screen panels by each door. Use them to control the electronics in the room, set your preferences to do-not-disturb, and order maid service. You’ll also find a well-stocked honor bar with a wide selection of reasonably overpriced alcoholic beverages for welcoming yourself to your room properly.

You Should Know Your room is on schedule to be serviced three times a day -- twice for maid service and once for a turn down -- if you would like to be interrupted by impeccable service slightly less frequently, be sure to set your room to do not disturb.

Bathroom

A marble oasis with a capacious corner soaking tub, and a toilet that's politely hidden behind its own separate door. Vanity kits and toiletries are provided by Asprey of London and replenished often enough to collect.

Lobby

The Ritz Berlin's lobby is always populated -- at least until the bars close. A grand staircase splits it in two halves chosen by the kind of experience you want to have. Head right for daily afternoon tea, or a light meal from Brasserie Debrosses. Head left to ogle the decadent desert tray and have a stiffer drink at the Curtain Club bar, opened every evening at 6PM sharp by an actual Beefeater.

You Should Know The lobby of the Ritz-Carlton Berlin is sort of a scene. Leave your flip-flops in the hotel room to avoid feeling out of place among the executives, socialites and Waterford crystal.

Pool

Surrounded by chaise lounges and entered by a staircase with gold railings, the pool is the definition of a luxury oasis in gold and cobalt mosaic tile. Both the pool and whirlpool are heated, to 86 and 90 degrees respectively.

You Should Know This indoor pool is too small for vigorous laps, but perfectly suited for floating blissfully with a glass of champagne in hand.

Spa

Relax in the Finnish sauna or sanarium after a swim. Manicures, massages and body treatments are also on offer by request.

Gym

The gym not only features state-of-the-art equipment (weights, treadmills, rowers, etc.) but also a personal trainer, available upon request.

Dining

Brasserie Desbrosses is a French restaurant starring local, seasonal and organic fare. Vegetables are supplied by the hotel's own organic fields. Seasonal specialties come from the Brandenburg region. You can't go wrong with dishes like Brandenburg buffalo burrata with focaccia, wild tomatoes, basil and olive oil experiences that you can only have here (and shouldn't miss).

Tip Room service is 24-hours, and tipsy post-night-out ordering is warmly received. Ask for the chef’s recommendation and prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

Drinking

There are few better places to imbibe in Berlin, and perhaps the world. It's a bold statement that's backed by a Fragrance Bar that serves drinks inspired by famous perfumes, made with rare spirits, and served in unusual vessels like a Swedish birdhouse with flickering lights. It’s the only bar of its kind in the world and an experience that shouldn’t be missed.

The Curtain Club serves its own noteworthy cocktails; 36 are unique to the hotel and listed in their own hard back book. Drinks like The Poet & The Alchemist -- made with saffron infused rum, cardamom and tonka bean -- are night-changing.

You Should Know The Fragrances Bar is only open on Friday and Saturday nights and worth shifting your schedule around for.

The Club Level

A hotel within a hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Club features an even more exclusive level of luxury. Members have 24-hour access to the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge, located on the top floor of the hotel. Four daily meals -- breakfast, light lunch, afternoon tea, dinner -- are served buffet style and feature treats like jamon iberico, and ferme de peupliers yogurt. For liquid dining, the club has a selection of well-aged spirits, and instructions for mixing your own cocktails.

You Should Know While food service stops at 10:30pm, coffee, water and other non-alcoholic beverages are available around the clock.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The Berlin Ritz-Carlton is located in Potsdamer Platz, near upscale shopping, restaurants and plenty to see on foot. Taxis wait in line right outside the door and are quicker than scheduling an Uber which relies heavily on in-app Taxi service itself at roughly the same price.

Restaurants

Potsdamer Platz is famous for fine dining. The Ritz-Carlton's own Brasseries Debrosses is one of the best in the area. Or, try Lutter and Wegner for a filet mignon worth writing home about (5-minute walk), or try Vox for a taste of seafood, world-class sushi and live music in the evenings (7-minute walk). If you’re in the mood for a particular type of fare, feel free to ask the concierge.

Bars

The Ritz has great drinks, but if you’re looking for a livelier (or younger) scene, try Catwalk for great drinks and an even better DJ (2-minute walk). For a more authentic biergarten experience, try Prater Garten, one of the oldest beer gardens in Berlin and still one of the best (13-minute drive).
