When to Go

Peak Season: May to September

Summer countrywide is pleasantly warm and dry with cool sea breezes. For coastal areas, July and August are peak season and portside hotels book up quickly, so plan in advance. Late spring and end-of-summer temperatures are cooler inland and in the mountains, especially at night.

Off Season: November to February

Although winters are typically mild—about 7ºC (45ºF)—especially in the southwest, this is the rainy season. Expect snow in high-altitude areas.

Shoulder Season: March to April, October

Like the rest of Europe, early spring and fall can be mild and exquisitely beautiful, without any crowds to speak of. Portside hotels are usually discounted by 25% and you may even find yourself alone at many major tourist sites.
