Fodor's Expert Review Cynthia's Talk of the Town
Although St. Martin is known for upscale dining, each town has its barbecue stands, called lolos—even Grand Case. Locals flock to the half-dozen stands in the middle of town, on the water side, for a fun, relatively cheap, and iconic St. Martin meal. With plastic utensils and paper plates, Cynthia's couldn't be more informal. The menu includes everything from succulent grilled ribs to stewed conch, fresh snapper, and grilled lobster at the most reasonable prices on the island. All come with several tasty sides, like plantains, curried rice, beans, and coleslaw. Don't miss the johnnycakes. The service is friendly, if a bit slow; sit back with a $1.50 beer and enjoy the experience. On weekends there is often live music. At this writing, a 1:1 euro-dollar exchange rate is offered. Come earlier in the day for fresher fare.
