Fodor's Expert Review The Great Inagua Outback Lodge

Matthew Town, Great Inagua Island, Bahamas

The Great Inagua Outback Lodge is the dream of Inaguan Henry Hugh who wanted to relax in his own quiet island paradise. Roughly (and the road is very rough) 15 miles from Matthew Town, Outback sleeps six in two cottages, sited within walking distance of a nice beach and flats fishing. Off the grid, Henry uses sun and wind power backed up by a generator for those who prefer air-conditioning. The nicely designed cottages have full bathrooms, quality beds and linens, along with Wi-Fi, satellite TV, free international calling, and even cell phone coverage! The cozy dining room and bar, with its lovely gazebo, are perfect places to enjoy the scrumptious fresh seafood that Henry plucks from his front yard. Be warned—the road is epic in ups and downs so if you rent a car, make sure it’s a high-clearance SUV. Stay/fish/dine packages are $1,935 per person for a week and includes a tour of Lake Rosa.
