Aruba has a handful of not-quite-famous but very talented stars. Further, many Aruban musicians play more than one type of music (classical, jazz, soca, salsa, reggae, calypso, rap, pop), and many compose as well as perform. Edjean Semeleer has followed in the footsteps of his mentor Padu Lampe—the composer of the island’s national anthem and a beloved local star—to become one of the island’s best-loved entertainers. His performances pack Aruba’s biggest halls, especially his annual Christmas concert. He sings in many languages, and though he’s young, his style is old-style crooner—Aruba’s answer to Michael Bublé.
