Fodor's Expert Review Mr. Jazz

$$$ Palm Beach and Noord Caribbean

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Although this restaurant is located on the second level of a new mall near the high-rise hotels, one step inside transports diners into an upscale 1940s-era Cuban jazz club. High ceilings, a large dance floor, and a stage that features live Latin performances nightly makes for a great dining experience. Happily, the menu, which features a series of Cuban-themed dishes, shines as brightly as the period light fixtures. The ropa vieja, a skirt steak served with a mojo sauce (made from garlic, olive oil, and citrus) is a traditional favorite, and the tenderloin is tender enough that it can literally be cut with a fork. An early-bird option from 6 to 8 pm includes four courses for $30.The live jazz performances mean that a dinner can turn out into an evening of entertainment over cocktails, and the place is quite the popular nightspot after 10.
