Fodor's Expert Review London Street Restaurant
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Started by the guys who run the local farmers' market, this place features what the owners call "Local Ingredients, Global Flavours." Try their Farmers Market Brunch on Saturday. The central bar, brick walls, polished wood floors, and cool-color interior project a degree of urban chic, which is rather out of character for Lyttelton, although not unwelcome. There's a huge wine list and dinner includes a manuka-grilled, rib-eye steak, pan-seared tarakihi, and a grilled pork cutlet on Parmesan polenta. The Small Plates menu (tapas style), where you can choose five plates for $50, is delicious—choices include tasty treats like eggplant tortellini, grilled sardines with smoked tomato sauce, and smoked duck breast with fig puree. Dessert may be an apple crumble with pouring custard. There's a Saturday brunch 10–4.
