On the site of an 1860s pub, the Public House part of the name is meant to show that it's once again inviting to all patrons. It is well worth a visit, but it's certainly not like an old pub. There are different spaces in the beautifully renovated old building including a "Snug" (fabulous cocktail lounge), as well as the bright, airy main dining room with lots of windows and lovely indoor/outdoor flow to the patio. The focus is on regional, seasonal food and Christchurch's renowned owner-chef Jonny Schwass knows what he's doing with it. Dine here if you can or drop in for champagne and oysters from the classy oyster bar. Or choose to do what Prince Harry did, and take a private dining room with your own choice of menu.
