As the pearl farm capital of French Polynesia, black pearls are the big "must-buy" here. You can buy pearls at farms or at Manihi Pearl Beach Resort. Unfortunately, a direct pearl farm purchase is no cheaper than a store-bought pearl as all pearls are sent to Pape'ete for authentication and grading and then come back to the pearl farms for sale.
Manihi Pearl Beach Resort's Manea Spa is the only spa on the island and offers enough treatments to keep guests happy for days. Therapists use the famous monoi oil (copra oil infused with tiare flowers), which is said to work miracles on the skin, in several massages involving hot volcanic stones and even black pearls. Massages start at 8,500 CFP for 30 minutes; the Manea Manea treatment of body wrap, scrub, facial, and massage is a pricey 33,000 CFP.
Manihi Pearl Beach Resort has two boutiques: a pearl boutique with single pearls and jewelry and a gift shop with souvenirs such as mother-of-pearl items and clothing.
