Chiang Rai Park

Phu Sang. Some 90 km (56 miles) due east of Chiang Rai is perhaps the region's most beautiful national park, Phu Sang, which has one of Thailand's rarest natural wonders, cascades of hot water. The temperature of the water that tumbles over the 85-foot-high falls never drops below 33°C (91°F), and a nearby pool is even warmer. The park has some spectacular caves, and is crisscrossed by nature trails teeming with bird life. One hour's drive north lies the mountainous border with Laos, straddled by 5,730-foot-high Phu Chee Fah, a favorite destination for trekkers and climbers. You reach Phu Sang National Park via Thoeng, 70 km (43 miles) east of Chiang Rai on Highway 1020. The park rents cabins for B500 a night. Entrance to the park costs B200, and B30 for a vehicle.
