Why We Like It

Effortlessly cool, this fun boutique evokes a colonial spirit mixed with the roaring '20s in its style, design, restaurants, and bars. With a focus on service, the hotel does its best to accommodate all guest requests, no matter how big or odd. With a desire to entertain, Muse provides a guide to the area on a weekly basis, in addition to giving its customers great options right inside. Though it’s far from a train station, there is a free shuttle, and the immediate area is worth walking in for finding amazing restaurants and strolling to Lumphini park.

Fodor's Expert Review

Eclectic and cool, the Hotel Muse is an artsy boutique that plays on colonial themes and the roaring 20s. Dark, rich tones encompass the property, along with antiques and vintage art strewn throughout. Catering to a young and creative crowd, the hotel offers a range of dining and drinking outlets and is a centrally located spot with access to great shopping, bars, and attractions.

Room

Dark wood tones douse the rooms with an Asian/Western mix of styles. All accommodations come with complimentary water, coffee/tea-makers, and beautiful views of the city. Some of the suites feature balconies that are vertigo-inducing.

Tip The hotel prints out a destination guide that’s a good primer for things to do in the city every week.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are encased in black marble and guests will find raised, ornate Chinese sinks, claw foot standalone tubs, and walk-in rain showers. Shanghai Tang bath products are standard.

Lobby

There are many private areas of the lobby, and all enhance the hotel’s colonial feel. Cowhide rugs, mismatched leather furniture, antler chandeliers, and steam trunk luggage is spread throughout. Le Salon is the lounge bar which is an a la carte breakfast and coffee spot in the morning, an afternoon tea area, and cocktail outlet by night.

Pool

The small pool is more of an art-piece than a place to swim laps, but there are loungers at the edges and views of the city are stunning. Inside, the locker room has sauna and steam facilities.

Gym

On the 19th floor, the Fitness Centre is a small facility with Life Fitness machines, free weights, fruit, and water. There’s enough here to get a full workout while staring out into the city.

Dining

Babette’s the Steakhouse is a roaring '20s style ode to meat, and a worthy choice on any night. But the true dining gem of the hotel can be found in the basement. Here, Medici Kitchen & Bar is housed in what feels like a giant wine cellar and serves classic Italian feasts with perfect wine pairings.

Tip There are opera singers here every night. Also, order the Pappardelle, which is prepared table-side by lighting a cheese wheel on fire and mixing the pasta inside. Just a small piece of Italian heaven.

Drinking

The Lobby Lounge serves a decent cocktail, but the real action is on the rooftop. Here, guests will find any number of outlets like the outdoor bar, Blind Pig Cigar Lounge, a hidden speakeasy, and more. The views are surreal and the drinks and small bites splurge-worthy.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Not exactly next door to public transportation, the hotel does provide a free shuttle to the nearest BTS Skytrain station. Taxis are a little tougher to come by, but you shouldn’t have that much trouble. The real problem is that it’s a one-way street heading south, so if you do get in a car, you have to make a big loop to get up one block.

Restaurants

Gaggan (5-minute walk) is one of the most innovative Indian restaurants and usually on top lists for all of Asia. Former Gaggan chef Garima Arora opened his own eatery across from Gaggan called Gaa (5-minute walk). Here you’ll find a more relaxed (but just as high quality) eatery with a range of inventive international delights.

Bars

The Beer Bridge (3-minute walk) is a suds-lovers paradise with endless craft brew options and bar bites. A little more refined, the Diplomat Bar (4-minute drive) is where embassy workers go to kill classic cocktails after long days of international diplomacy.
