While this area surrounding the central transportation hub had a seedy reputation for many years, it's been rebranded since the opening of Seoullo (an overpass-turned-park surrounding Seoul Station) and Culture Station Seoul 284 (a train station turned artspace). As with neighborhoods surrounding most central stations in capital cities, there are still shadowy corners in which you might not want to linger, but it’s relatively tourist-friendly, with lots to do. Visit the aforementioned sights and walk around the neighborhood behind Seoul Station, Malli-dong. The neighborhood has a number of quaint restaurants, bars, and cafes worth a stop if you’re waiting for a train or bus out of the city.
