Fodor's Expert Review Yojiya Café
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
This treasure of a café just off the Philosopher's Path is inside a traditional house that overlooks a low-lying garden with a pond and a miniature bridge. A tatami room with soft cushions for seating is arranged to maximize the view. Yojiya's specialty is desserts that blend traditional Japanese flavors and Western ones. Try a dessert set to get a good sense of what's on offer, and enjoy the intricate designs and pictures swirled into the foamy top of your "green tea cappuccino" or other drink. The food is served not at tables but on small black-lacquer trays. If natural cosmetics interest you, have a look at the elegant shop in the garden's rear.
