Chittaurgarh was for hundreds of years an important Rajput capital until it fell to Muslim conquerors from the north. Indian history books have made Chittaurgarh one of the most famous places in India, and the town attracts hordes of Indian tourists and students. Chittaurgarh town itself is an ugly, nondescript place.
