Eklingji, a lively temple town hardly more than half an hour out of Udaipur toward Jaipur on NH8, is the site of one of the areas key Shiva temples—the black-faced Eklingji is an avatar of Shiva. The shrine is very well regarded by the erstwhile rulers of Mewar. The action heats up further around here at Mahashivratri, a festival in February or March that fetes lord Shiva, when thousands of devotees flock to this town. Numerous tea stalls in the town hawk this region's specialty—green chilli pakoras (snacks).
