Fodor's Expert Review Maze

$$$ V&A Waterfront British

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Gordon Ramsay's first restaurant in Africa is a combination of Ramsay's other restaurants Gordon Ramsay Maze and Gordon Ramsay Maze Grill. Guests enter through a glass wall with more than 5,000 wine bottles into a vast three-story space of contemporary chandeliers. Start with carpaccio of veal and tuna or share items tapas-style. The white-onion risotto is very good. The menu is varied with crowd-pleasers such as a sensational Caesar salad with the option of butter-poached chicken breast or Cape lobster (crayfish) tail. Meat—local, Namibian and Australian Wagyu beef (among the most costly and tender in the world)—is cooked over coal before being broiled. Sides are extra but the thin-cut chips with garlic and sherry-cooked mushrooms are both must-haves. Order the Assiette of Maze desserts to share, bite-size portions of nearly the entire dessert menu.
