In an 11-story building across the street from the popular Sea Point pedestrian promenade, this apartment-style accommodation with a view is great for families or groups. Banish the thought of suites being super-luxurious and you'll understand the concept more easily: a variety of layouts sleeping four to eight people, all with incredible sea views. There are good bars, restaurants, kid's entertainment corners and pools, too.
You Should Know The hotel includes a lot of time-shares, so December and Easter holidays can be hard to book.

Room
The larger airy and light-filled suites are the most attractive, with picture windows, sliding doors, wide balconies (some glass, some concrete), and white-tile floors. Small "studio suites" are more like conventional hotel rooms. Each unit has a full kitchen, and all are sea-facing, with plain but bright decor, like jewel-colored furniture or throws. Some rooms are open-plan.
Tip Cots and highchairs can be provided for families - and the hotel even offers an 'order ahead of time' option for groceries, which is handy.
Bathroom
All of the 2-bed units have spa baths, and there's a variety of showers and baths in the other room classes. Bathrooms are plain but comfortable, in grey marble.
Lobby
The large lobby feels quite traditionally hotel-like, with a sunken lounge and comfortable sofas and then the restaurants, pool, and a seafront terrace at the front of the building. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there are other amenities to take note of: a courtesy bus with an 8km radius until 10pm, for example, business and meeting facilities, and two excellent children's games rooms for different age groups.
Pool
The hotel has two pools: the main pool, complete with waterfall and to the front of the property, is overlooked by the Sunset restaurant. The heated pool is accessed from the gym on the first floor and has aqua aerobics classes.
Spa
There's a small sauna, but no spa.
Gym
The hotel gym is well-equipped, with its own in-house personal trainer.
Dining
Sunset Restaurant is a modern space with the same plain but bright vibe as the rooms. The menu changes regularly but is at the fine dining end of the spectrum. Breakfast is served here too. Strolla Cafe, run independently, is a cool spot popular with locals and guests with its own private deck and sea views.
Drinking
Guests can have drinks in Strolla Cafe or the restaurant, or out by the pool.

Getting Around
The hotel is great for strolling around the seafront of Sea Point and Mouille Point, and pretty close to the city center, too (only ten minutes from the V&A Waterfront).
Restaurants
La Mouette (5-minute walk) offers highly regarded modern French and international cuisine. Or you can try NV-80 (5-minute walk), an excellent, busy steak restaurant.
Bars
Harvey's (4-minute drive, 20-minute walk) is a vibey seafront bar at the Winchester Mansions Hotel. Or go to one of Cape Town's only proper beach bars, The Grand Africa Cafe and Beach (11-minute drive).
