Cube Guest House
20 Luisa Way, Hout Bay, Western Cape, 7806, South Africa, South AfricaWhy We Like It
A gorgeous, intimate guesthouse with fantastic hosts, stunning sea and mountain views, and the chance to mingle with other guests from around the world over breakfast--or to hide away on your private terrace or on a plush daybed by the saltwater pool. And it's all very reasonably priced. Just absolutely lovely.
Fodor's Expert Review
An absolutely stellar guesthouse high on a hill in residential Hout Bay, it's hard to find a bad word to say about the Cube. Stunning views, stylish rooms, a lush garden, pool and daybed under a massive fig tree, great prices and perfect hosting from Dirk and Patrick (and their dogs, Paul and Milla). It's a gorgeous, modern retreat from the city while still being within easy reach of most of the sights in Cape Town and along the Cape Peninsula.

Room
The six rooms—all kitted out with high-end amenities like espresso machines and Apple TVs—are mainly in white with wooden floors, which perfectly sets off the often startlingly blue sky and sea views available from the large windows, particularly in the corner suite (which, along with many of the rooms, has its own private terrace).
Tip The delightfully strange "cottage" (it's like a ship's cabin made from teak and bamboo) looks out to the lovely pool and shaded outdoor breakfast patio.
Bathroom
Bathrooms are equally luxe and pristinely white, with high-end bath products, large mirrors and bright plants. Some have freestanding baths, and otherwise there's a mix of showers, baths, or both. The owners are happy to advise on which room would best suit guests on booking.
Lobby
It's a guesthouse, so there's no lobby as such--but there is excellent concierge-level service from the owners, including onward bookings for the rest of your trip in South Africa and many other helpful services and tips.
Pool
The saltwater, solar-heated pool is gorgeous, twinkling blue in the sunlight, and surrounded by gardens.
Dining
The tasty hotel buffet breakfast is served overlooking the pool.
Drinking
Rooms have minibars, but there's no bar.

Getting Around
The guesthouse is high up on a hill in Hout Bay, so it's best to have a car (or be ready to get Ubers) to explore. In one direction lie the delights of the Cape Peninsula, including stunning ocean roads and penguins, and in the other the beaches and bars of Cape Town (within 20-30 minutes).
Restaurants
Beautiful La Colombe (11-minute drive), on a vineyard in Constantia, serves delicious high-end food to match the setting. Or try the comforting La Cuccina (2-minute drive, 11-minute walk), a Hout Bay institution dishing up hearty, simple and tasty grub.
