Beaches

Cap Spartel's beaches vary widely from wide inlets to long stretches of sand. Ashakar is a public beach with three parts: the first is level with the road while the following two, more highly recommended, are accessed by descending steep steps down cliffs and sometimes flowering dunes, and eventually becomes Robinson Beach.

Robinson Plage. Just west of Tangier, and running south from Cap Spartel lighthouse, the area's most famous beach on the far Atlantic coast offers several uninterrupted miles of fine, silky sand, and good waves ideal for families and surfers alike. Like its counterpart at Tarifa across the Strait of Gibraltar, there is generally a lot of wind around Robinson, making it also ideal for windsurfing. This is the last beach on the Atlantic before its waters merge with those of the Mediterranean at Cap Spartel, so the winds and current can be tricky. Staying close to shore is recommended for safety. Amenities: food and drink; water sports. Best for: snorkeling; walking; windsurfing. Plage Municipale, off Av. Mohamed VI, Tangier, Tanger-Tétouan.
