On Lilienblum and Allenby Streets, and in Florentine, where many of the pubs and bars are clustered, things don't really get started until at least 10 pm, especially on Friday night. Most places stay open "until the last customer," which means it's at least 3 am when things finally begin to wind down, although some places are still crowded at 5 am.
For those who want to start and finish the evening early, some nightspots—particularly wine bars—open before the night owls descend. Happy hours are becoming more and more popular.
One of the oldest bars in Tel Aviv, the Monastery is a gritty, down-to-earth pub that's popular with a slightly older after-work crowd, as well as with students later in the evening and on weekends. The kitchen serves up some fine food, too.
The country's most authentic Irish pub is—no surprise—run by an Irishman, Robert Segal. Live music reverberates on Friday afternoon. There's a full menu, including such Emerald Isle favorites as shepherd's pie and beef stew.
