3 Best Shopping in Gambia

Albert Market

Bustling and full of color, this main city market has three sections. One is for food – meats, produce and dry goods; another sections hawks clothing, housewares, and other everyday needs; the rest is aimed at tourists seeking arts, crafts, and gifts. Dozens of stalls wind through the maze. Expect crowds but remain calm. If things get too hectic, take a walk to the river for a deep breath.

Lemonfish Art Gallery

Contemporary African art is displayed in two spacious halls and on a large veranda on a knoll overlooking the sea. Other items for sale include crafts, jewelry, fashions, produced by local artisans, and art workshops are available. The tranquil setting is a peaceful retreat (with a five-room bed and breakfast on the property).

Samba Mbowe & Sons

The Senegalese master silver- and goldsmith in residence here creates African designs, some incorporating colorful beads and stones in gold or silver settings. Detailed scrollwork decorates many necklaces and bracelets, but simple gold band rings are not out of the question.
