Language

Spanish is the official language of Venezuela, but many words in common usage are unique to the country, especially regarding foods. For instance, Venezuelans call a banana a cambur; a watermelon a patilla; a papaya a lechosa; and a passion fruit a parchita. If you really want to sound like a local, sprinkle the word chevere (CHEH-veh-reh) into your conversation: that's the best way to say "cool" or "all right."
