Car Travel

Although the Venezuelan highway system is still a work in progress, more than 80% of the country's roads are paved. Driving can get you places you wouldn't otherwise get to see. However, Venezuelans often drive as if the traffic rules are merely suggestions. It's important to drive defensively. Avoid using your car at night, when poorly lit roadways and erratic drivers make things especially dangerous.

Gas Stations

Oil-rich Venezuela has among the world's cheapest gas prices. A liter of unleaded gas (sin plomo) costs Bs.F 0.10. The national oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela (PDV), operates 24-hour stations on major highways. Shell, Texaco, and others also have stations.
