Train travel on PeruRail (www.perurail.com) is slow but scenic and more relaxing than a bus blasting reggaeton. A Pullman train ticket means more comfort, not to mention a meal and increased security. The train goes only between Cusco and Puno. It's a popular way to take in the dramatic change of scenery as you ride over La Raya Pass at 4,315 meters (14,157 feet). The trip takes about nine hours and includes a stop at the highest point. PeruRail also runs a luxury train service with en-suite doubles and a luxe restaurant car, the Andean Explorer (www.perurail.com/trains/belmond-andean-explorer), in collaboration with Belmond. The 2N/3D trip shuttles between Cusco and Arequipa, with an overnight stop in Puno and a half-day exploration of the Uros and Taquile Islands. All transfers and meals are included.
