Taxi

For most visitors, taxis are the best way to get around Lima. A caveat, however: in Peru the vehicles are unmetered, meaning you have to negotiate the fare with the driver before getting in (a good rule of thumb is to offer 75 percent of the initial price quoted). This problem can be obviated by using an app like Uber or EasyTaxi or by taking one of the black taxis that service the tourist hotels (the concierge will be glad to call one for you). A journey between two adjacent neighborhoods should cost between S/8 and S/12; longer trips run between S/20 and S/50. When calculating travel times, be sure to factor in Lima's morning (7–9:30 am) and evening (4–8 pm) rush hours, which are horrendous.
