If you're flying to Peru, you'll touch down at Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez, in the port district of El Callao. Once you're in the main terminal, the crowds can be overwhelming, so do yourself a favor, and arrange for a transfer through your hotel. You can also hire a cab from one of the companies stationed in the corridor outside of customs, or take an Airport Express Lima bus, which drops passengers off at seven major hotels in the city.

Various airlines handle domestic flights, so getting to and from major tourist destinations is easy. LATAM is the carrier with the most national flights, with a dozen per day to Cusco and several daily departures to Arequipa, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Iquitos, Juliaca (Puno), Piura, Puerto Maldonado, Trujillo, and Tumbes. Star Perú is relatively inexpensive and flies to Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Cusco, Huánuco, Iquitos, Pucallpa, Puerto Maldonado, and Tarapoto. Viva Air Perú, an even more affordable discount airline, flies to Arequipa, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Cusco, Iquitos, Piura, Tacna, and Tarapoto.
