Bus Travel

Intercity buses are inexpensive, fast, and reliable. Long-distance buses—some with air-conditioning, reclining seats, and movies—race between the major centers. Bone-shaking local buses, known as colectivos, rattle between villages and along city streets. The 370-km (230-mi) journey from Asunción to Encarnación takes about five hours by bus and costs G50,000; the 330-km (205-mi) trip from Asunción to Ciudad del Este also takes five hours and costs G50,000.
