Dominated by Great Britain for more than 400 years, the Falklands' culinary tradition is deeply anglicized. The British who settled here hundreds of years ago were not fishermen by trade, importing sheep instead. Lamb and mutton are still front and center on any menu, although, this being an island, fish dishes—and, of course, fish and chips—are abundant. You'll also find plenty of fresh salads and heartier foods for the chilly weather. All in all, the food is very close to what you'd find at home.
A sweeping view of the harbor and a lovingly prepared meal are pretty much assured at this luminous hotel restaurant. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it's one of the town's most reliable bets for good dining. Homemade soups and garden fresh salads dominate for lunch, along with more hearty fare, like snow crab, artichoke, and spinach dip or a grilled veggie and cheese sandwich. For dinner, hot dishes, like roast Gressingham duck or prime rib with Béarnaise sauce hit the spot in chilly weather, and the lamb is highly recommended. There's also a pleasant bar and lounge for a drink and a snack with your view. Don't assume you can eat a late dinner—the restaurant closes at 9 pm.

Sometimes only a burger will do—or fish and chips, or a hot curry—and for Anglo comfort food, this friendly bar and diner covers all the bases. Desserts tend toward the sinful side, with shameless amounts of fudge, whipped cream, marshmallow, and meringue. Wash it all down with a thick creamy milkshake or a frothy beer—you'll walk it all off on the beach.

This convivial café-style hotel restaurant with views over the bay is a good choice for a home-cooked meal, dessert, a cup of tea, or a glass of wine in the comfortable lounge area. Hearty soups, salads, homemade sausage rolls for lunch, and more substantial fare for dinner, like roast lamb—a house specialty—are more than reliable. Desserts and pastries are also baked on the premises. To top it off, a decent cup of coffee and a selection of beer and wines by the glass are available in the lounge, too.
