Fodor's Expert Review Hostería Atamari
Península de Santa Elena, Ayampe, Manabí, Ecuador
Papayas, palms, and flaming bougainvillea grow among the thatch-roof cottages of this hotel, which is perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Ayampe Valley and the Pacific Ocean, 28 km (17 mi) south of Puerto López. Trails by the hotel lead to a private beach where hundreds of birds and butterflies hover. Whale-watching season is June–October; from the cliff-top terrace you'll have the best seats in the house. The outdoor restaurant serves fantastic international cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood.
