At the foot of Guadalupe Peak is Bogotá's oldest neighborhood, La Candelaria, a historic compound of narrow streets lined with astounding colonial structures. It's packed with lovely mansions and exquisite churches. Most of the city's best museums, churches, and theaters are within a five-block radius of the Plaza Bolívar and can be walked during the day, with usual care being taken. Unfortunately, this area should be avoided at night as it has become rather dangerous.
