Subway Travel

Santiago's subway system is the best way to get around town. The metro costs between 610 and 740 pesos per ride (depending on time of day and bus transfers). You can buy a single-use ticket or a BIP smart card (la tarjeta bip!). The metro is safe but gets very crowded at peak hours, and you should keep a hand on your valuables. The system operates weekdays 5:40 am–11:30 pm and weekends 8 am–11 pm, with some variation depending on the metro line. Metro opening and closing hours are listed at each station above the turnstiles.
