The Atacama has seen a boom in luxury accommodations in recent years. San Pedro, in particular, hosts more than half a dozen luxury lodgings that range from lavish desert resorts to tasteful boutiques. Luxury hotels usually are full board with activities included and transfers to the airport in Calama. Otherwise, opt for one of the smaller hotels in town that offer reasonable prices. The gamut of hotels outside of San Pedro is less exciting, and be warned that some accommodations bill themselves as "luxury" despite not having seen a lick of clean paint for years. In rural towns, accommodation is relatively inexpensive and hotels are few and far between, so you might have to make do with guesthouses with basic rooms and shared bathrooms.
