A labor of love from a Californian expat couple passionate about Mexican food, this casual-chic restaurant at the heart of Leblon sets culinary standards way above sour cream–heavy Tex Mex fare. Deliciously picante dishes are prepared according to traditional recipes and immaculately presented—the trio of tacos is a house specialty and looks (almost) too good to eat. The cocktails are a strong suit, with the frozen margaritas deliciously cooling on a balmy Rio evening, when the pavement tables are fiercely contested. The decor is modern and colorful with a nod toward kitsch, prices are more than reasonable, and the service is first-rate. Serious tequila fans will find plenty to keep them happy here, too—there’s a wealth of imported varieties on offer.
